Интервю с Jake Kuzyk
Posted март 30th, 2011 by Risto
I was just on the phone with Alex Andrews who reminded me that Jake is known for downrails, he’s also known for noseslide and noseblunt sameways, both regular and switch, he’s also known for being really happy, and really consistent. Now I didn’t really have any goals, strategies, or direction when I interviewed Jake today. I actually did it on a whim while I was ichatting with him. But maybe after reading this, he’ll be known for a little more than downrails.
Ready?
Jake: I’m putting pants on, and socks.
You were naked?
Jake: I had sleep pants on. I didn’t really get up yet, alright? I’m ready.
Oh, I already started, everyone knows you were naked.
Jake: Nice. It’s my room? I’m just trying to chill.
Oh ok. So what’s this video you just posted?
Jake: Wreck Eight. The Wreck Posse is our local skateboard crew from Winnipeg. We have been making skateboard videos for awhile now. 8 years I guess? We kinda take turns editing them. I made this one. Alex Doyle filmed most of it. He’s a Youtube sensation, sorta.
I’m on the phone with someone and he wants to know if the clothing you wear reflects the style of your riding?
Jake: You’re talking to Harrison (Gordon) aren’t you?
No, I’m not really. I’ll tell you after you answer.
Jake: I guess? I don’t know. I like to just wear jeans and long sleeves usually, sweaters and stuff. Things most humans wear. I’m sure it does? I think it would for everyone. Otherwise you wouldn’t wear it.
That’s a nice safe answer. It wasn’t Harrison, have any other guesses as to who it was?

Jake: Java (Fernandez)? I don’t know?
It was Jacob Olson-Elm.
Jake: Wow, I would have expected something a lot different from that guy, like what’s my favourite Janis Joplin song or something.
Jake will surprise you; he’s a college student too.
Jake: Yeah I guess that’s true.
Why’d you think it was Boardin’ Gordon?
Jake: It just sounded very Harrison, you know. He would ask you something like that on the regular I feel. In a very sarcastic Garfield type tone.
Yeah he would. Okay so back to Wreck. Your boy is a Youtube sensation?
Jake: http://www.youtube.com/user/gordonalexander His channel gets a lot of traffic I guess. Little kids love his shit. They have posted some of his videos on The Berrics and stuff.
Remember when we were gonna take you to the Berrics? We wanted to surprise you.
Jake: Yeah it didn’t work. I want to ollie that bump over stairs. Looks fun. Are you still besties with Steve (Berra)? Can we go still?
We can go, as long as Plan B isn’t filming their United Nations. Are you still filming for Videograss?
Jake: Yeah. You mean did I quit? Or am I still filming tricks for my part?
I don’t know, maybe you got kicked out?
Jake: Yeah well almost, Peep Show had room for me. And it seemed like a better fit for my skill level. I almost did it.
How has it been filming with Joe (Carlino), Hayden (Wrench), and Gary (Milton)?
Jake: Really fun! It always is. Last year was cool cause I got to roll with them then. I knew exactly what it would be like this year and how it is working with everyone. I think it helped.
I noticed on our blog that you’ve been getting out in the backcountry, how is that going?
Jake: Oh man, it rules. Backcountry was something I always wanted to get into, but never had the setup. And I was always so nervous about it that I think it held me back. But after a few days of going out and getting a better idea of how it all works. I started to get more confident with the sleds and the terrain. Actually being able to tell what your looking at whether it’s 10 or 100 feet. It’s something I really want to do more of in the next few years looking into getting a snowmobile right now actually.
Any helicopter follow cams?
Jake: Ahaha not this year. Sandbox has done a few of those sessions already I heard though. They even have street shit with mini helicopter follow cams, real talk.
Oh yeah, I saw those at Super Park last year. Gave me vertigo looking at those while I was snowboarding. So when do you get out here for the demo?
Jake: Tomorrow. I’m staying with Alex Andrews. I’m really exited. I’ve never been to Utah.
You’ve really never been here?
Jake: No, never. I had no reason to really. Salt Lake rails never intrigued me really. What chance do I got with all these locals. They go off at every chance of snow. I really want to ride some resort powder there. Looks like a lot of fun.
There is gonna be some snow here. I think there is a lot today, but we gotta go get ready for the demo. Actually I have to go right now. See you soon!
